Nainital: Preparations for the Foundation Day fair to be organized on June 15 at the world famous Kainchi Dham located in Nainital, Uttarakhand have reached the final stage. Keeping in view the possibility of lakhs of devotees coming to the fair, Nainital Police has implemented detailed traffic and security plan. According to the police, special traffic arrangements will be in effect from the morning of June 13 to the night of June 16 and during this period, entry of heavy goods vehicles will also be banned.

‘No one will be able to go to Kainchi Dham temple in a private car’

Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police Manjunath TC said that during the fair, no devotee will be allowed to go directly to Kainchi Dham temple in his personal vehicle. All devotees will have to park their vehicles at designated parking spots, from where they will be taken to the temple through shuttle services. SSP said,


‘Whether devotees come from Nainital Road, Ramnagar Road or Haldwani-Kathgodam Road, all vehicles will have to park at marked parking spots only. After this, Kainchi Dham can be reached only through shuttle service.

Know where devotees will have to park their vehicles

ASP said that deployment of police force and briefing of officers will be done on June 12. There will be point-to-point briefings at various locations on the evening of June 12, after which the traffic plan will be fully implemented from the morning of June 13. Devotees coming from Haldwani and Kathgodam in their own vehicles will have to park their vehicles in Bhimtal parking and Vikas Bhawan parking. Whereas devotees coming from Nainital and Ramnagar will have to park their vehicles in Metropole parking and DSA Flats parking. Shuttle and cab services will be available from both the places.

Special arrangements for those coming by bus-train

SSP Manjunath TC said that special shuttle services will be run through mini buses and buses for the devotees coming from Haldwani bus stand, Haldwani railway station and Kathgodam railway station. These vehicles will take the devotees directly to Kainchi Dham. He said,


‘All preparations for operating shuttle services have been completed. Adequate number of vehicles will be available so that the devotees do not face any inconvenience.

Ban on goods vehicles for four days

To maintain smooth traffic, operation of all types of heavy goods vehicles has been banned from the night of June 13 to June 16. However, vehicles carrying milk, gas, petroleum products and other essential services will be allowed to move under prescribed conditions. Police have also decided alternative routes for goods vehicles. Such vehicles will be able to go to Bageshwar and Pithoragarh via Tanakpur. You will be able to travel towards Almora via Ramnagar route. There will be a ban on entry of all other goods vehicles except essential commodities on the Nainital route.

A large number of security forces deployed for security

Extensive arrangements have also been made for the security of the fair. Paramilitary forces and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) units will also be deployed along with the police. SSB teams are also being deployed on duty. Apart from this, more than three special teams of Fire Service, SDRF, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) will also be deployed. ATS teams will also reach from Dehradun and Haridwar.

The SSP said that during the fair, eight additional superintendents of police, 12 area officers (CO), three IPS officers and more than 1500 police officers and employees will handle the security arrangements. Apart from this, four PAC companies are also likely to be deployed.

Police appeal to the devotees coming to the fair

SSP Manjunath TC appealed to the devotees to follow the traffic plan and said, ‘Lakhs of devotees will reach the fair. We are sharing the complete traffic plan through social media and media. Everyone read it carefully and follow the prescribed system. One thing is clear that the devotees coming by any route will have to make the last journey by shuttle service only. Driving in hilly areas is not easy for everyone and the temple area is extremely crowded.
