The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of extremely serious media reports regarding the suspicious death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida in Bhopal. According to media reports, Twisha Sharma died under suspicious circumstances after just 5 months of marriage. The victim’s family members have made serious allegations of dowry harassment, mental and physical torture against her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh.
Report sought from Chief Secretary and DGP
National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written a letter to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Madhya Pradesh, giving instructions to ensure immediate, impartial, transparent and time-bound investigation in the matter. The Commission has asked to submit a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) within 7 days.
Instructions to provide security to the victim’s family
The Commission has sought information regarding the provisions imposed in the FIR, status of arrest and interrogation of the accused, steps taken to arrest absconding accused Samarth Singh, status of passport impoundment, CCTV footage, call records, electronic and forensic evidence, post mortem report and action taken on earlier complaints. The Commission has also directed that the victim’s family should be protected from any kind of threat, pressure or character assassination, so that the justice process can proceed in a fair environment.
‘Negligence will not be tolerated’
National Commission for Women has strongly condemned this incident and said that any kind of negligence or misuse of influence will not be accepted in cases related to dowry harassment and domestic violence against women and strict action should be ensured against the culprits.

Before marriage, she had also worked in the world of Telugu films and modeling. During this time, she met Samarth Singh on a dating app. The closeness between the two grew and with the consent of the family, they got married in December 2025. But Twisha’s death after just five months of marriage has filled the entire matter with mystery and controversies.
