Material

  • Peeled Moong Dal: 1 cup
  • Desi Ghee: 3/4 cup
  • Sugar: 1 cup
  • Water: half cup
  • Mawa: half cup
  • Cardamom Powder: 1 tsp
  • Dry Fruits: Almonds and Pistachios Chopped

method of making

step 1

First of all, filter out all the water from soaked moong dal thoroughly. Now grind it coarsely in a mixer without adding water. Keep in mind that its paste should not be fine, but should have a slightly coarse texture like that of a confectioner so that fine grains are formed in the barfi.

Step 2
Heat desi ghee in a heavy bottomed pan. Add ground moong dal to it and fry on medium flame while stirring continuously. Initially the dal will absorb the ghee and seem heavy, but as it roasts, it will start releasing the ghee and its color will turn golden brown. This may take about 20 to 25 minutes.

Step 3
Now mix sugar and water in a separate pan and keep it on gas. Boil it until the sugar dissolves completely and one string syrup is prepared. Add cardamom powder to it.

Step 4
Now add mawa to the roasted lentils and fry for 2 minutes. After this, slowly add the prepared syrup into it and keep stirring continuously so that lumps do not form. Cook the mixture until it starts leaving the pan and starts coming together like dough.

Step 5
Grease a plate or tray with ghee. Spread the prepared mixture evenly in it and garnish it with almond-pistachio slivers and press it lightly. Leave it to set for 2-3 hours. After this, cut it into desired square pieces. Then enjoy it.
