Famous cinematographer Dilip Ray, who helped in improving the films of Odia cinema for many decades. He died at the age of 72. The film industry and political leaders have expressed grief over the demise of Dilip Ray, a well-known name in the Odia and Bengali film industry. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi described his demise as an irreparable loss to the art and culture of the state and said Ray’s contribution in enriching the Odia film industry will always be remembered.

Born on 27 July 1954 in Cuttack, Dilip Ray took training in cinematography at the Film and Television Institute (FTI), Bengaluru, before beginning his career that spanned several decades. Dilip Ray, who has received the Odisha State Film Award for Best Cinematography five times, has worked in more than 80 Odia feature films, about 15 Bengali films and many Chhattisgarhi films. He also contributed to documentaries and television serials.
