There is relief news for the drivers traveling on the expressway. Now it has been said that challan for overspeeding will not be sent for driving at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has informed the officials to give instructions in this regard. He also said that vehicles traveling at 20 per cent more speed than the prescribed limit should also be given exemption. However, this does not mean that the speed limit on the expressway has been officially increased.
Nitin Gadkari said this while discussing the future of the country’s highways and expressways at an event of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He said that challans or notices should not be issued for speeds up to 120 kilometers per hour. Apart from this, it was said to provide relief to the drivers even at speeds exceeding this limit by 20 percent. That is, it has been suggested not to issue challan for speeding up to 144 kilometers per hour on expressways with a fixed limit of 120 kilometers per hour.
Will this instruction be applicable in the entire country?
Do not understand from this statement of Gadkari that the speed limit for driving on the expressway has been increased. At present, he has talked about giving instructions regarding issuing challan on the expressway. This relaxation will not be applicable on all highways and expressways of the country. On normal highways you will have to drive only according to the speed limit fixed there.
120 formula will not be applicable on Delhi-Noida Expressway
If you travel on Delhi-Noida or Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, the 120 kmph formula will not be applicable there. The maximum speed limit for cars here is 100 kilometers per hour. It can also be reduced to 75 kilometers per hour during fog in winter. Therefore, it is important to follow the speed limit signs posted on the road.
Why was this instruction given?
According to Gadkari, there were complaints of getting challan due to minor speed difference or technical reasons on the expressway. In such a situation, it has been said to give buffer margin to make the invoice system practical.
Caution is also necessary at high speed
Drivers should not consider this relaxation as an open permission to drive fast. The risk of accident increases with higher speed. It is very important to maintain a safe distance, drive in the correct lane and follow the speed limits imposed on the road.
