Bye Group airline company Air India is modifying its Boeing 787 aircraft to overcome the possible problem related to ‘Door Assist Handle’. This step has been taken by Air India at a time when the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued airworthiness directives on this issue. Sources gave this information on Sunday. The Federal Aviation Administration issued these instructions earlier this month for some models of the Boeing 787-8, 787-9 and 787-10.
Danger of injury to passengers and crew members while opening doors
These instructions have been given after complaints of loosening of the lower part of the door assist handle installed in the door support bracket of the aircraft during the pre-take-off check of the flight. The FAA has asked airline companies to make necessary modifications to these models, as detaching the handle may pose a risk of injury to passengers, crew members or maintenance teams while opening the door. Air India currently has 35 Dreamliner aircraft.
Work has been completed on some old aircraft
The Tata Group airline company is also aware of the US Federal Aviation Administration’s directive and it has no impact on current flight operations or safety aspects, the source said. Necessary changes are being made in a phased manner as per the instructions and this work has also been completed in some old aircraft. However, details of how many Dreamliner aircraft require replacement are not currently available. No official comment has been made by Air India and Boeing in this matter.
