The government is now going to take a big step to reduce the increasing consumption of petrol in the country and dependence on foreign crude oil. After E20 petrol, India is now moving towards E30 fuel. The government has approved new standards for high ethanol blended petrol like E22, E25, E27 and E30. It is clear from this that in the coming time, the use of petrol mixed with more ethanol may increase in the country.
E30 petrol means a fuel in which 30% ethanol and 70% petrol will be mixed. Ethanol is a biofuel produced from sugarcane, corn and other agricultural products. The government believes that this will reduce the expenditure on petrol and farmers will also benefit.
Government issued new standards
Bureau of Indian Standards has released new fuel standards on 15 May 2026. Under this, different technical standards have been set for E22, E25, E27 and E30 fuel. These fuels will be used in vehicles with petrol engines.
Why did this step become necessary?
India imports more than 85% of its crude oil requirement from abroad. When the price of oil increases in the international market, it has a direct impact on the Indian economy and the pockets of the common people. In such a situation, the government wants to reduce dependence on foreign oil by promoting ethanol blending.
Now the next phase after E20
The government has already launched E20 petrol and its supply has started in many parts of the country. Auto companies are also launching E20 compatible vehicles in the market. Now the new standards indicate that the government is working on fuels like E30 and in future also E85.
Will your car run on E30?
At present, the government has not announced the launch date of E30 petrol. For this, vehicle companies, fuel supply system and petrol pump network are being prepared. It is believed that in the coming years, new vehicles will be designed according to high ethanol fuel.
