Sri Lankan team is on West Indies tour these days. A two-match Test series is being played between the two teams. The Sri Lankan team is in a lot of trouble before the second Test to be played from July 3. Some players of the team are out of this match due to injury and some due to illness. Overall, 4 Sri Lankan players are not available to play in this match. The situation is such that the team management will have to make playing-11 from only 13 fit players out of its 17 players. In such a situation, 29 year old fast bowler Isitha Wijesundara may get a chance to play his first test match.
Pathum Nissanka out of second test
The biggest loss for the Sri Lankan team has been the exclusion of opener Pathum Nissanka. For treatment of his wrist injury, he left the team on June 30 and went to Britain, where he will undergo surgery. In his place, Lahiru Udara will open the innings in the second test match. Due to this injury, he may now be out of the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL). After the batsmen, the condition of Sri Lanka’s fast bowling is also not good for this match.
Sri Lanka’s two leading fast bowlers injured
Veteran fast bowler Vishwa Fernando’s back and waist pain has not completely healed, so he will not be able to play in the second Test match. Lahiru Kumara is also suffering from hamstring injury. In the first Test match, he walked off the field after bowling just one over and his old injury has resurfaced. In such a situation, he will also not be available to play in this match. In the absence of these two bowlers, Isitha Wijesundara is expected to be included in the team.
Ramesh Mendis will also not be able to play the second test
Off-spinner Ramesh Mendis has also fallen ill due to infection on this tour, hence he will also not be able to play the next match. It is considered absolutely certain that senior spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya will play in his place in the second match. Sri Lankan team is in trouble due to continuous injury and illness of players. In such a situation, now their only aim is to win the second test match and end the series on par. However, it is not going to be easy for the Sri Lankan team to win this match without its key players.
