Country Major labor organizations CITU, AIAWU and All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) have strongly opposed the trade agreements signed with the US and the EU. These organizations said on Friday that these agreements are a threat to the country’s agriculture, industry, employment and policy autonomy. Communist Party of India (Marxist)-affiliated Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), All India Kisan Sabha and All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) held a joint press conference in Delhi ahead of the February 12 general strike.
Appeal to workers and farmers to participate in the strike on a large scale
All India Kisan Sabha General Secretary Viju Krishnan, CITU General Secretary E. Karim and Indian Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) General Secretary B. Venkat has called upon the workers, farmers and agricultural and rural laborers of the country to participate in this strike on a large scale. He stressed the need to intensify united resistance against the policies of the BJP-led central government and termed these policies as an attack on workers’ rights, farmers’ livelihoods, public property and national sovereignty. The joint platform of central labor organizations (CTU) and regional unions has called for a one-day general strike on February 12 against the implementation of the labor code and these trade agreements.
United Kisan Morcha also supported the strike
This strike, which is going to be held on February 12, has also been supported by the platform of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and agricultural workers organizations. These organizations have reiterated several of their demands including legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and withdrawal of the Vikas Bharat-Employment Livelihood Mission (Rural) (VB-Ji Ram Ji) scheme. These organizations have also criticized the General Budget 2026-27 and termed it anti-people and pro-corporate sector.
