monday The condition and direction of the Indian stock market in the new week starting from 2017 will depend on many important issues. Market experts said that this week the direction of the stock market will be decided by the inflation data based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI), the attitude of foreign investors and global signals. Apart from this, investors will also keep an eye on the movement of rupee against the US dollar and crude oil prices. Domestic stock markets witnessed a lot of ups and downs last week and ultimately closed with losses. Let us tell you that last week the BSE benchmark index Sensex had closed with a decline of 444.71 points or 0.51 percent.

Investors will keep an eye on WPI based inflation data

Ajit Mishra, Senior Vice President (Research), Religare Broking Limited, said, “Many data are to be released at the domestic level this week, in which inflation based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) and trade balance data are prominent. Developments related to India-US trade talks will also be monitored. The performance of US markets globally and macroeconomic signals coming from there will impact investor sentiment in the near term.” In the first two weeks of this month, foreign investors have withdrawn money from the Indian stock market by selling shares worth Rs 17,955 crore, taking the total withdrawal of foreign investors so far in 2025 to Rs 1.6 lakh crore.

Sharp fall in rupee and withdrawal of foreign funds is having a bad effect.

Ajit Mishra said that continuous withdrawal of foreign funds and sharp decline in rupee has put huge pressure on investor confidence. Siddharth Khemka, head of research, asset management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, said, “Overall, we expect markets to remain range-bound, although broader indices will see volatility. If there is any concrete progress regarding the India-US trade agreement, it could lead to a meaningful uptick in the market.
