Shares of telecom company Vodafone Idea i.e. Vi, which is going through a very difficult phase, jumped by almost 9% in early trading on Friday morning. The main reason for this is the emergence of a new timeline for settlement of the company’s AGR i.e. Adjusted Gross Revenue liabilities. The company said in the stock exchange that it has received relief related to AGR liability from the Department of Telecom i.e. DoT. Following the announcement, Vi shares rose from ₹11.50 to ₹12.51, a rise of 8.7%.
Vodafone Idea AGR Repayment Plan
Vodafone Idea said that DoT has put a six-year freeze on AGR liabilities till December 2025. This freeze will be applicable on principal amount, interest and penalty. Vodafone Idea’s total AGR liability as of December 2025 was ₹87,695 crore.
The payment plan is as follows
From March 2026 to March 2031: Total ₹744 crore per annum, i.e. a maximum of ₹124 crore annually.
From March 2032 to March 2035: ₹100 crore per annum.
From March 2036 to March 2041: The remaining AGR liability will be repaid in equal annual instalments.
The company also informed that DoT will form a committee which will re-evaluate the AGR liability. The decision of the committee will be considered final.
Earlier, on December 31, 2025, the Cabinet had given big relief to Vodafone Idea. Under this, the company’s ₹87,695 crore AGR liability was frozen, and the payment plan was fixed from FY32 to FY41.
Stock situation and financial improvement
Vi shares have seen a rise of 64% in the last six months. The main reason for this is the expectation of investors that the resolution of AGR will stabilize the financial condition of the company. The company’s profit-loss (P&L) figures are also improving. Losses are reducing and operational improvements are visible. ARPU i.e. Average Revenue Per User increased to ₹180, whereas in the previous quarter it was ₹166. This means that the company is generating better revenue from its customers and the customer base is also improving.
