Delhi-Dehradun Expressway: The journey from Delhi to Dehradun is now going to become not just a distance but a memorable experience. Now great news has emerged regarding the expressway which was awaited for years. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has indicated that the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will be opened for the general public in the next 10 to 15 days. As soon as it starts, the journey from the capital Delhi to the capital Dehradun of Uttarakhand can be completed in just 2 hours, which currently takes about 6 to 6.5 hours.
In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Nitin Gadkari said that he has also sought time from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inauguration of this 212 km long, 6-lane access controlled expressway. This mega project, built at a cost of about Rs 12,000 crore, is considered to be one of the most modern expressways in the country.
Expressway built in four parts
This expressway, built in four parts, starts from Akshardham and Shastri Park area in Delhi. After this, it connects to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) and goes to Dehradun in Uttarakhand via Baghpat, Shamli and Saharanpur. This expressway will give a new impetus to the connectivity between Delhi-NCR and Uttarakhand, which is expected to provide major benefits to tourism, trade and the local economy.
Wildlife Friendly Expressway
The special thing about this expressway is that it has been designed keeping in mind not only the speed but also the safety of the environment and wildlife. The part between Ganeshpur to Dehradun has been kept wildlife friendly. About 12 kilometers long elevated road has been built here, which passes over forests and rivers. Apart from this, 6 animal underpasses, 2 elephant underpasses, 2 big and 13 small bridges have been built, so that the movement of wildlife is not disrupted.
Forests, mountains and rivers…
The elevated route starting from the Saharanpur-Uttarakhand border passes over the Rispana and Bindal rivers. While traveling on this route, the view of greenery all around, mountains and rivers flowing below will mesmerize people. This is the reason why it is not just being called an expressway but also a “Nature Corridor”.
