
Rail Indian Railways is continuously working on new projects to provide better security to passengers. In this connection, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has proposed two important projects costing ₹ 483.65 crore to upgrade Western Railway at different levels. These include equipping the Udhna-Jalgaon rail section with armored rail protection and updating 436 locomotives (rail engines) of Western Railways with new technology.
307 km long Udhna-Jalgaon rail section will be equipped with armor
Under the leadership of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav towards giving top priority to railway safety and adoption of advanced technology, two important works have been proposed for execution of KAVACH (Train Collision Anti System) on Western Railway under the Umbrella Work 2024–25 of Indian Railways. The total estimated cost of this proposal is ₹483.65 crore. These include the installation of KAVACH system on the 307 km long Udhna-Jalgaon rail section. It is proposed to cost ₹109.83 crore for installation of KAVACH on this important rail section between Gujarat and Maharashtra, which will strengthen the operational safety of railway passengers as well as railways.
436 engines of Western Railway will be upgraded
A provision of ₹373.82 crore is proposed for necessary upgradation and programming of 436 existing locomotives of Western Railway to ensure smooth and effective operation of the KAVACH system. Both these works are part of the larger umbrella project of Indian Railways “Provision of KAVACH with Long Term Evolution (LTE) Communication Backbone on Remaining Routes of Indian Railways (Umbrella Work 2024–25)” which has been sanctioned at a cost of ₹27,693 crore (PH-33) under the Works, Machinery and Rolling Stock Program 2024–25. Under this umbrella project, a sub-umbrella amount of ₹2800 crore has been sanctioned for Western Railways.
