Today, a new track of development has been laid amidst the picturesque hills and hilly roads of North-East India. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, in a historic step, flagged off the new train service between Sairang (Mizoram) and Silchar (Assam). This is not just the beginning of a train, but it is going to prove to be a lifeline towards connecting Mizoram deeper with the rail network of the country.
Sairang station located near Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, is now directly connected to Silchar in Assam. Till now, to travel between these two states, people had to go through difficult hilly roads and travel for hours, but the launch of this new service will save both time and money.
Local people will get big benefits
- Better health facilities: Serious patients of Mizoram will now have easy access to good hospitals of Assam (like Silchar Medical College).
- New opportunities for education: It will now be safer and cheaper than ever for students to travel from one state to another.
- Speed up business: The supply of essential commodities will be faster and local agricultural products (like pineapple and ginger) will be able to be transported to larger markets.
Guwahati station rejuvenated
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also inaugurated new passenger facilities at Guwahati railway station, the gateway to Assam. Through these modern facilities, the passenger accommodation, waiting areas and information centers at the station have been made of global standard, which will make the experience of the tourists coming to the North East pleasant.
Big step towards North East development
The Sairang-Silchar new train service and expansion of facilities at Guwahati station show that the Central Government is continuously working to connect the Northeast with the mainstream. This railway project will play an important role in the social, economic and infrastructure development of the region in the coming times.
