The impact of the ongoing tension in the Middle East and the Iran crisis is now visible on the energy supply around the world. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced that the supply of kerosene for domestic needs will be increased, so that there is no problem in cooking and lighting.

The government has given temporary relaxation in some safety and licensing rules related to petroleum. Under this decision, kerosene will be made available for homes in 21 states and union territories. This step is especially important for those areas where pressure on energy supply is increasing.

Kerosene will also be available from petrol pump

Under the new system, now public sector oil companies will be able to sell kerosene through retail outlets like petrol pumps. This facility will remain applicable for the next 60 days. With this, people will be able to get kerosene easily and will get relief from the problem of long lines or shortage.

How much stock will dealers be able to keep?

The government has also allowed that up to 2500 liters of kerosene stock can be kept at each retail unit. This will strengthen the supply chain and ensure immediate availability at the time of need.

What is the provision in the law?

This decision has been taken under the rules of Petroleum Act 1934 and 2002, in which the government has the right to relax the rules in special circumstances. This provision has been used in view of the current situation.

What will be the benefit to the general public?

This step will especially provide relief to the poor and people living in rural areas, where access to LPG is limited or there is difficulty due to fluctuating prices. With the help of kerosene they will be able to cook food and also fulfill their lighting needs.
