
India India’s largest airline company Indigo is going through a terrible crisis for the last 2 days, due to which the company has canceled more than 100 flights. Indigo flight services were badly affected at many airports in the country for the last two days. The airline canceled more than 100 flights citing technical glitches, shortage of pilots and crew, new FDTL rules and increasing crowd at the airport as the reasons. Due to cancellation of a large number of flights, thousands of passengers remained stranded and chaos broke out at many places. Indigo has informed about cancellation of 38 flights from Delhi, 33 from Mumbai and 14 from Bengaluru.
Indigo apologized to passengers
Issuing an official statement, IndiGo said that sudden technical problems, schedule changes due to winter, bad weather, crowding at the airport and the new rules of Crew Duty Time Limit (FDTL) had a direct impact on the operations. The company says that due to the new rules, the availability of pilots reduced, due to which many flights could not fly on time. The airline company apologized to the passengers and said that necessary changes are being made in the timings of flights for the next 48 hours to normalize the situation. Indigo team is working continuously so that passengers face minimum hassle.
Passengers are being given the facility of alternative travel or refund.
Indigo said that affected passengers are being provided alternative travel options or refund facilities. IndiGo has requested passengers to check the updated status of their flights on goindigo.in before leaving home for the airport.
1232 Indigo flights were canceled in November
Let us tell you that IndiGo is facing a huge operational crisis these days. According to DGCA, 1232 Indigo flights were canceled in November, out of which 755 flights were canceled due to crew and FDTL rules. Apart from these, 92 flights had to be canceled due to ATC system failure, 258 due to airport/airspace restrictions and 127 due to other reasons. Meanwhile, IndiGo’s on-time flight (OTP) performance has also been badly affected. IndiGo’s OTP fell badly to 67.70% in November, whereas it was 84.1% in October. Major reasons for delay were ATC 16%, Crew/Operations 6%, Airport issues 3% and other reasons 8%.
DGCA summoned
DGCA has provided additional guidance to airlines on implementation of the new FDTL rules. IndiGo has been instructed to strengthen crew planning, increase ATC-airport coordination and improve turnaround procedures. Passengers have been advised to check their flight status before going to the airport. DGCA has asked IndiGo to immediately appear at the headquarters to explain the entire situation and submit a plan to reduce delays/cancellations.
