Indian Airline company Akasa Air has also announced an increase in flight ticket prices. Akasa Air said that it will charge fuel surcharge from passengers ranging from Rs 199 to Rs 1300 for each seat for all domestic and international flights. The airline company said that this fuel surcharge will be charged along with all flight tickets booked from 00:01 am on March 15. Let us tell you that due to the ongoing tension in the Middle East, the prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) have increased significantly, due to which the airline company has decided to add fuel surcharge to the fare.

Fuel constitutes a major part of the total expenses of an airline company.

The share of fuel in the total operating expenses of any airline company is very large and important. In such a situation, the increase in ATF prices was putting a lot of pressure on the airline companies. Before Akasa Air, the country’s two other major airline companies Air India and IndiGo are also charging fuel surcharge from their passengers. In this case, Air India was the first to announce the imposition of fuel surcharge. After which, Indigo had announced the fuel charge on Friday itself. Air India has been charging fuel surcharge ranging from Rs 399 to $90 (approximately Rs 8332) on flight tickets since March 12. At the same time, Indigo is charging fuel surcharge ranging from Rs 425 to Rs 2300 on flight tickets from March 14.

Aviation fuel is made by refining crude oil.

ATF used to run airplanes is also made by refining crude oil and the prices of crude oil have reached close to $ 100 per barrel. IndiGo had said in a press release on Friday that according to IATA’s ‘Jet Fuel Monitor’, fuel prices in the region have increased by more than 85%. This sudden and huge increase is having a significant impact on the costs and networks of all airline companies involved.
