Metro travel of the capital Delhi is now going to enter a new phase. Delhi Metro, which handles millions of passengers every day, is now becoming not only a means of travel but also a solution to the city’s traffic and pollution problems. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken a big step in this direction. After approval of Metro Phase-5A, Central Secretariat Metro Station will be developed as the most important triple interchange metro hub of the capital. This will not only improve the connectivity of passengers, but is also expected to reduce the traffic pressure of Central Delhi.
Central Secretariat will become a super interchange
At present, there is an interchange of Yellow Line and Violet Line at Central Secretariat Metro Station. About two lakh passengers travel from here every day, while about 60 thousand employees working in nearby ministries and government offices also depend on this station. Now after the expansion of Magenta Line under Phase-5A, this station will be converted into a triple interchange.
Magenta Line will be expanded
According to DMRC, the Central Vista Corridor from RK Ashram to Indraprastha has been approved in Phase-5A. Under this, the Magenta Line will be extended. Currently, passengers coming from Magenta Line have to change the metro in between to reach Central Secretariat, but after the expansion, Magenta Line trains will also stop directly at this station. This will save time for passengers and make travel more convenient.
Dependence on private vehicles will reduce
DMRC says that interchange stations are built in important areas so that people give preference to public transport instead of private vehicles. There are a large number of government offices around the Central Secretariat, where thousands of people come daily by cars and two-wheelers. With the addition of Magenta Line, the reach of Metro will be strengthened, which will reduce the use of private vehicles and is likely to reduce pollution.
Number of interchange stations will increase
According to DMRC, many new triple interchange stations will also be started under Metro Phase-4. Currently there are 29 interchange stations in the Delhi Metro network. Upon completion of Phase-4, this number will increase to 43, while with Phase-5A the total interchange stations will increase to 46.
