
December IndiGo, which faced a dire operational crisis in early 2019, will start compensating passengers from December 26. The country’s largest airline company Indigo had canceled more than 5000 flights between December 2 and 10, apart from this, countless flights were also delayed. Lakhs of passengers had to face a lot of problems due to flights being canceled and delayed. Following the recent instructions issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry, Indigo passengers will now start receiving compensation. According to an estimate, IndiGo may have to pay a total compensation of Rs 376 crore to about 3.8 lakh affected passengers.
Company will give travel voucher of Rs 10,000 to passengers stranded at the airport
Sources have informed TOI about this entire matter. Let us tell you that the government on Friday had directed IndiGo to immediately start the process of compensation for the passengers affected on December 3, 4 and 5. IndiGo will issue travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000 to each seriously affected customer who was stranded at the airport for several hours between December 3 and 5. Along with this, Indigo will also have to pay compensation ranging from Rs 5000 to Rs 10,000 to the affected passengers as per government rules.
Passengers booking tickets through Indigo website may soon get compensation
An official told TOI that passengers who had booked tickets through IndiGo’s website should start receiving compensation within a week, as the data of such passengers is already available with the airline company. Additionally, the company has been directed to contact travel agents and online travel agencies (OTAs) to collect details of all such passengers and has been directed to compensate them who had booked tickets through travel agents and online travel agencies. This work should also start soon.”
Civil Aviation Ministry will monitor the entire process
The government has directed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to ensure that every affected IndiGo passenger gets appropriate compensation. Not only this, the Civil Aviation Ministry itself will monitor this entire process through its AirSewa portal.
