A young man died while running away after snatching his mobile in Bengaluru. He was a heart patient and was trying to snatch the mobile along with another person. Both of them were running away on a scooter after snatching the phone, but a laborer threw a sack on their car. Due to this the scooter fell and the accused started running away leaving the snatched phone along with the scooter. After running about 250 metres, one of the accused collapsed and died. The police have arrested the second accused.
Snatching a mobile proved fatal for an 18 year old youth. While trying to avoid being caught, he collapsed and died. His companion has been taken into custody. The deceased has been identified as Junaid (18), while his accomplice Arbaaz (23) was arrested shortly after the incident.
Incident happened on June 15
According to the police, the incident took place on June 15 at around 5:30 pm in Bengaluru’s busy Cubbonpet area. In the video footage going viral on social media, the duo can be seen chasing a pedestrian on a two-wheeler and then quickly snatching his mobile phone. The victim immediately raised an alarm and chased them. An alert worker threw a sack at the fleeing scooter, causing the driver to lose control and the two suspects falling to the footpath.
The deceased was with a habitual criminal
In a hurry to escape the crowd, the suspects left the stolen phone and scooter there and started running away on foot. Police said that after running about 250 meters, Junaid suddenly fell near a parked motorcycle and died on the spot. Arbaaz, who has a previous criminal record and is described as a habitual offender, was tracked down and arrested. However, Junaid had no criminal history.
Parents said he was a heart patient
During investigation, Junaid’s parents told the authorities that he was a heart patient and had a coronary stent implanted, due to which there was a possibility of his sudden fall and death after the accident and running. Based on the complaint of the victim, the police have registered a case of mobile snatching and a case of unnatural death in connection with Junaid’s death.
