Punjabi black dal tadka which is also called mother’s dal tastes very tasty. This dal is eaten with rice or roti. Once you eat these dal, you will keep licking your fingers. It is made a little differently from normal dal. But its flavour, aroma and taste are all wonderful. Believe me, once you make black tadka dal of Punjab, you will become crazy about it. Quickly note down the recipe of black dal or mother dal.

Recipe of black lentils or mother’s lentils

First step- First of all you have to take urad dal. Wash the lentils thoroughly with water two to three times. Now soak the pulses in water for about 6 to 8 hours. Along with this, take some gram dal, wash it thoroughly in water and mix it while making dal. Gram dal should not be soaked for too long.

Second step- If you want to make dal quickly, you can cook it in a cooker. By the way, in Punjab this dal is cooked in an open pot. We are using cooker here. First of all add dal and add water to it. Now add turmeric, red chilli and coriander powder. Chop 2 bay leaves, large cardamom, two tomatoes and two onions and add them.

Third step- To add to the dal, take 2 green chillies, 1 inch piece of ginger, 4-5 garlic cloves and grind it coarsely and add it to the dal. After mixing, whistle for two to three times. When the pressure is released, check whether the dal is being pressed properly or not.

Fourth step- Now add oil in a pan, you can also use ghee along with it. Now crackle cumin seeds, add asafoetida and add garlic. Now add green chillies, 1 finely chopped onion, green coriander stalks into it. Cook a little and then add kasoori methi, red chilli powder and dry red chilli. Now add boiled lentils to it and cook till the spices dissolve.

Add green coriander and garam masala on top. Your Punjabi style mother’s dal is ready. You can enjoy it with rice or roti. Be sure to add a little ghee at the end and a little lemon, this will double its taste.
