Festivals in India not only mean celebration but also the journey of crores of people from one place to another. In view of this huge crowd and increasing demand, Indian Railways did such a thing in the year 2025, which became a record in itself. According to the Railway Ministry, more than 43 thousand special train trips were run across the country during religious events and peak travel season in 2025, thereby providing safe, easy and convenient travel to the passengers.

The Railway Ministry said that these special arrangements reflect the Railways’ commitment towards handling the increasing number of passengers and providing better connectivity to different parts of the country. In the year 2025, special trains were operated on a much larger scale than in previous years, with special focus on passenger convenience and crowd management.

Mahakumbh 2025 becomes the biggest operation

In 2025, the biggest special train operation of Railways was seen during Mahakumbh. Railways ran 17,340 special train trips for the Maha Kumbh held between January 13 and February 28. These trains played a big role in transporting crores of devotees to Prayagraj and surrounding areas.

Relief even during Holi and summer holidays

Railways also made special preparations during Holi 2025. Between March 1 and March 22, 1,144 special trains were run, which was almost double the number of last year. This reduced the shortage of tickets during the festival to a great extent. At the same time, in the summer season running from April to June 2025, Railways operated 12,417 summer special train trips, so that the passengers traveling during holidays do not face any problem.

Record increase in Chhath Puja

Even during Chhath Puja 2025, Railways’ preparations were special. Between October 1 and November 20, 12,383 special train trips were run, which was much more than last year. This brought great relief to passengers traveling to Bihar, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and other states.
