Hailstone The problems faced by electric scooters have now become fully known. Customers buying Ola electric scooters keep complaining about various problems. Meanwhile, a new news has come regarding Ola electric scooter. A consumer commission in Thane has directed Ola Electric to replace the defective electric scooter or refund the full amount to the customer. The Commission said that this is a case of ‘serious lapse’ on the part of the company. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (Additional Thane) in a recent order said the Bengaluru-based manufacturing company is indulging in ‘unfair trade practices’.
The commission ruled in favor of the customer
The Commission said that after looking into the matter, it was found that the scooter sold to the customer was not in good condition and had many defects. The commission said, “It was very important to correct the problems by providing proper service to the complainant. Not providing necessary information regarding service and not rectifying the malfunction of the scooter is a matter of ‘defect’.” A lawyer from Navi Mumbai who complained had purchased an Ola electric scooter for Rs 96,997 in July 2024. According to the complainant, just two days after delivery, the scooter started having ‘acceleration’ related problems and his scooter stalled several times in moving traffic.
The company will have to pay the entire money with interest or a new scooter.
The customer reported that on August 29, 2024, the battery level dropped from 21 percent to 3 percent within just 500 meters. When the problem was not resolved even after complaining several times, the customer appealed against the company to the Commission regarding the deficiency in service. The commission said that the battery draining quickly and other problems encountered by the vehicle in its first use show that this scooter was faulty from the beginning. The Commission has directed Ola Electric to give the customer another scooter with the same features. If the company does not do so, it will have to refund the entire price of Rs 96,997 with 6 percent annual interest.
