India and Zimbabwe are set to clash in the T20I series. The 3-match T20I series is going to start from July 23, in which Team India, captained by Shreyas Iyer, will have the challenge of opening the winning account. Team India has been playing on foreign soil for almost a month and the team is facing continuous failure. First, Team India had to face a crushing defeat of 0-2 at the hands of Ireland in the 2-match T20I series. Then the Indian team lost 0-4 in the 5-match T20I series at home to England. Not only this, England also defeated the Indian team 2-1 in the 3-match ODI series. Now Team India will face the challenge of avoiding defeat in the fourth consecutive series on foreign soil.
Before the three-match T20I series, captain Shreyas Iyer made it clear that the team no longer wants to live in the past. He believes that players have to come on the field without any fear, because the fear of failure has the biggest impact on performance.
On the eve of the first T20I match in Harare, Iyer said that the England tour was certainly difficult for the team, but many important lessons were learned from it. According to him, the team has now understood well what kind of mentality, ability to adapt to the circumstances and take better decisions during the match will be required to move forward. This England and Ireland tour was also Shreyas Iyer’s first foreign assignment as captain. Although the results were not as expected, he said that these experiences have made the entire team stronger and more united than before.
There should be no fear of failure
Shreyas Iyer especially advised the young players to play with confidence. He said that if players enter the field with the fear of failure, they are unable to play their natural game. He said that when you have fear of failure, you play to protect yourself. But when this fear goes away, only then can you perform to your full potential. Iyer also said that the team should focus on the present instead of paying attention to external criticism. According to him, if the players come together and play good cricket then the results will automatically improve.
The Indian team has reached Zimbabwe straight from England and got only one practice session before the first match. Iyer admitted that it is not easy to adapt to the new circumstances in such a short time. He said that we reached here yesterday, practiced today and tomorrow is the match. It is certainly challenging, but performing well in such circumstances gives a different satisfaction.
Iyer does not want to take Zimbabwe lightly
The captain said that many players in the team are playing in Zimbabwe for the first time. In such a situation, the sooner the team understands the circumstances, the greater will be its chances of success. The Indian captain also praised host Zimbabwe. He said that this team is very competitive and many of its players also have experience of playing IPL, due to which they can make the matches tough.
