During the general elections held in Bangladesh, mobile financial services and internet banking were banned by Bangladesh Bank. The ban on these services has been lifted after four days on Friday. Now customers of major platforms like bKash, Nagad and Rocket will again be able to transact under normal rules. According to the news of Dhakatribune, as per the decision of Bangladesh Bank, these special restrictions imposed for four days after midnight (12 o’clock) of Friday (13 February 2026) have been completely abolished. With effect from February 13, Bangladesh Bank has now lifted all previously imposed limits on person-to-person transactions. After today, common people can avail financial services like normal days.

Why were the restrictions imposed?

Bangladesh Bank (central bank of Bangladesh) had implemented these strict instructions from the night of 8 February to prevent misuse of funds, flow of black money or illegal fund transfers during the national elections held on 12 February. The restrictions remained in effect for 96 hours (from midnight on 9 February to midnight on 12 February).

What were the rules during the restrictions?

Only a maximum of Tk 1,000 could be sent in a single transaction through mobile financial services platforms (bKash, Nagad, Rocket etc.).

Only a maximum of 10 person-to-person transactions were allowed in a day (total daily limit of around Taka 10,000).
Person-to-person transfers through Internet Banking (IBFT – Internet Banking Fund Transfer) were completely suspended.
However, merchant payments, utility bill payments (electricity, water, gas etc.), government charges and other service payments remain free from these restrictions and continue as normal.

What was the impact on customers?

During this period, many customers faced problems, especially in sending money to family members, transferring funds for essential expenses or doing small transactions. Many people had expressed their discomfort on social media and other platforms. A Bangladesh Bank official said these steps were temporary and precautionary to maintain financial discipline during the elections. The services have been fully restored after the elections were completed peacefully. Now bKash, Nagad and Rocket users will not face any interruption in normal transactions.

Customers can avail full facility from today

Bangladesh Bank reviewed the situation after the completion of the 96-hour period and decided to lift the ban. Now person-to-person transactions will be subject to normal daily/per transaction limits as before. Customers will now be able to avail the full facility without any special restrictions.
