With the beginning of the new year, people planning to visit Uttarakhand may get a shock. Entry into Devbhoomi will no longer be as cheap as before. Green cess is being implemented on vehicles coming from other states from January 1, due to which travel from car to bus and heavy vehicles will become expensive. The government says that this step is necessary to protect the environment and strengthen the state’s revenue, but it is going to have a direct impact on tourists and transport business.
The Uttarakhand government has made it clear that from the new year, vehicles from other states entering the state will have to pay green cess ranging from Rs 80 to Rs 700. During the meeting held at the Secretariat, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the Transport Department to implement this system soon. Besides, he also strongly reprimanded the officials for not implementing the scheme properly in the last two years.
government plan
The government plans to collect green cess completely digitally through FASTag. For this, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed at 16 places on the state borders. If a vehicle does not have FASTag or the balance is exhausted, a notice will be sent to the vehicle owner. If cess is not deposited within the stipulated time, challan will be deducted.
