A decline was recorded in early trading in the domestic stock market on Wednesday amid global cues. The 30-share BSE Sensex was trading at 84866.73, down 196.73 points at 9.28 am. At the same time, NSE’s Nifty was also seen trading down by 59.05 points at 26,119.65. In the last trading session, Sensex closed at 85,063.34 and Nifty 50 at 26,178.70. In early trade, 1,286 stocks in the Nifty pack were trading in the green, while 1,019 stocks were trading in the red. No change was observed in 113 stocks.

Top gainer and loser

Among the 30-Sensex companies, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance and Maruti were the biggest losers. However, Titan, Infosys, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra and Reliance Industries were among the gainers.

BSE midcap and smallcap indices fall

Similarly, Broader indices were also trading lower in the early session. BSE Midcap fell 13.74 points in the early trading session, while BSE Smallcap index was trading 18.66 points higher at 51,734.62. On January 7, investors are keeping a special eye on stocks like Titan Company, Jubilant Foodworks, Godrej Consumer Products, Lodha Developers, Yes Bank, IRB Infrastructure Trust, Indian Energy Exchange, Biocon and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation.

Rupee 26 paise stronger against US dollar

The rupee rose 26 paise to 89.92 against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday due to a weak dollar and a sharp fall in global crude oil prices. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the rupee opened at 90.20 against the US dollar but continued rising and was trading at 89.92, up 26 paise from its previous close. On Tuesday, the rupee closed at 90.18 with a rise of 12 paise against the American currency, ending four consecutive days of decline.

Today’s trend in Asian market

Asian stock markets were seen under mild pressure today. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 346.08 points, or 0.66%, to 52,172. At the same time, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was trading with a fall of 248.45 points. However, South Korea’s Kospi remained in the positive zone and gained 48.69 points. Similarly, Shanghai’s SSE Composite index also closed with a gain of 11.87 points or 0.29%. While some major markets continued to underperform, some registered slight gains.
