Himachal The state government has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 31 crore every year to start regular flight services on Delhi-Shimla and Shimla-Dharamshala routes and ensure their continuous operation. Officials gave this information on Wednesday. A government spokesperson said the move was aimed at promoting high-end and timely tourism. The spokesperson also said that these flights will operate daily. The spokesperson said that the government led by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has given top priority to tourism and has started several initiatives to enhance tourist facilities.

He said that tourism can play an important role in strengthening the economy of the state as well as creating jobs and self-employment opportunities for the youth. The spokesperson said, “This air connectivity will give a major boost to tourism and will contribute significantly to the overall economic development of the state. This initiative will reduce travel time, improve accessibility and ensure smooth movement of tourists and businessmen as well as local people.” He also said that availability of reliable air services to Shimla and Dharamshala will strengthen administrative functioning, enable faster transportation of critical patients to hospitals by air route and ensure timely and effective response during emergencies and natural disasters.

Heliports will be built at all district headquarters and major tourist places

The spokesperson said that this concessional regional air connectivity will benefit daily commuters, businessmen and tourists alike. Apart from three operational airports, there are several helipads in the state and heliports are being constructed at each district headquarters and other major tourist destinations. Recently, helicopter services to Chandigarh and Reckong Peo have been started from Sanjauli Heliport, providing a unique opportunity to tourists to experience the natural beauty of the state. Additionally, helicopter services on Sanjauli-Rampur-Rekong Peo and Sanjauli-Manali routes will also start soon. Proposals have already been submitted to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation for approval of Standard Operating Procedures for these routes.
