Karnataka Preparations to build a second international airport in the capital Bengaluru are going on in full swing. Bengaluru currently has Kempegowda International Airport, which alone handles the load of the entire city as well as the surrounding cities. In such a situation, to reduce the load of Kempegowda International Airport and provide another option to air passengers, planning of another international airport project is going on at a fast pace. Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) has issued tender for selection of expert consultant company for preparing site suitability and detailed technical and financial feasibility report in respect of the proposed second international airport for Bengaluru.

Last date for submitting applications for tender fixed

Karnataka’s Infrastructure Development Minister M.B. Patil said on Saturday that the last date for submitting applications for the tender has been fixed as January 12, 2026. According to a statement issued by the minister’s office, the state government has identified another location near Nelamangala, besides Chooda Halli and Somanahalli on Kanakapura Road, for the proposed second airport for Bengaluru. Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport is located in Devanahalli in the northern city. Patil said that a high level team of Airports Authority of India (AAI) has inspected all these places and submitted the preliminary report to the government.

Detailed technical and financial feasibility report will have to be submitted within 5 months

The expert consultant company selected through the tender process will have to submit a detailed technical and financial feasibility report to the Government of Karnataka within 5 months. The Minister said that those companies will be eligible to participate in this tender, which have completed projects worth at least Rs 250 crore every year in the last 5 years and have prepared consultation reports for at least 5 projects in the relevant area. Let us tell you that apart from Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, there is also an international airport in Mangaluru in Karnataka.
