
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train on Sunday, 22 February. The PM also inaugurated the remaining sections of India’s first NaMo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System, including a 5 km section between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and a 21 km section between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh. With this inauguration, the remaining sections of the 82 km long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut NaMo Bharat Corridor connecting Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut’s Modipuram will be inaugurated. Now also come into operation. This is the only route in the country on which both Namo Bharat Rapid Train and Metro Train will run on the same track. With the operation of Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train, travel between Delhi-NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh will become even easier, providing fast, safe and modern transportation facilities to the passengers. Now passengers will be able to reach Delhi from Meerut in just 55 minutes.
The track is capable of speeds up to 180 kilometers per hour
With a design speed of 180 kilometers per hour, NaMo Bharat is India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). This project will connect Delhi to major urban centers like Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut in a fast and safe manner. This system will provide comfortable and modern transport facility to the passengers in NCR region in less time, which will bring great convenience and time saving in daily commute.

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Delhi LG VK Saxena have reached Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Metro Station. PM will inaugurate the remaining sections of India’s first NaMo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System today. These include a 5 km section between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and a 21 km section between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh. The originating station of this corridor, Sarai Kale Khan, is one of the four NaMo Bharat stations to be inaugurated with this inauguration.
Meerut Metro is India’s fastest metro system
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Meerut Metro service between Meerut South and Modipuram. Meerut Metro will be the fastest metro system in India, with a maximum operational speed of around 120 kmph. The metro will cover the entire route in just 30 minutes, with all scheduled stops along the way.
