Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the government is planning to launch a ride-hailing mobility app called ‘Bharat Taxi’ within a month or two. The aim of this initiative is to reduce the dependence of commercial vehicle drivers on private companies and to provide taxi drivers with the full economic benefit of their hard work. Addressing an event organized in Panchkula, Haryana, Shah said that the number of drivers running taxis, autos and bike taxis in the country is large, but in the existing private companies, the profits remain limited to the owners of the companies. He said that there are many companies involved in taxi operations in the country, but their benefits do not reach the drivers. This situation will change through ‘Bharat Taxi’.
‘Bharat Taxi’ will be based on cooperative model
Amit Shah said that this app is being launched under the initiative of the Ministry of Cooperation and the entire profit from it will go directly to the drivers. He said that we will launch ‘Bharat Taxi’ in a month or two and every penny of the income from it will go to the drivers.
Drivers will get additional facilities
According to the Union Minister, new employment opportunities will open for taxi drivers through this platform. Along with this, they will get insurance facilities, additional income from advertising on taxis, and permanent income opportunities. Shah said that this initiative will not only empower the drivers financially but will also ensure better and convenient services for the passengers. He expressed confidence that ‘Bharat Taxi’ will soon become the number-one taxi operating company in the country.
Who will operate the app?
Amit Shah had earlier informed in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that the ‘Bharat Taxi’ app will be operated by ‘Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited’. It is a Multi-State Cooperative Society, registered under the MSCS Act, 2002 on 6 June 2025. During the program, Shah also addressed the conference of Krishak Bharti Cooperative Limited. He said that the government is working on reducing the use of water and chemicals in farming through the new agricultural policy and is making continuous efforts to make the farmers prosperous through the cooperative movement.
