DGCA has given big relief to lakhs of people traveling by air. Now if you have booked a flight ticket, and cancel it within 48 hours, you will not have to pay any extra charge. This facility is being provided by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) under new rules, which have been made more transparent in the interest of passengers. DGCA has taken this step in view of the complaints of passengers and problems of delay in ticket refunds.
According to the newly amended rules of DGCA, if the ticket is booked directly from the airline’s website, then passengers can cancel their ticket without any extra charges within 48 hours of booking. Also, if there is a mistake in the name in the ticket and the passenger corrects it within 24 hours, no charge will be taken for this also. This facility applies exclusively to online booking for passengers.
Refund process on booking through agent or portal
If the ticket is purchased through a travel agent or online portal, the responsibility for refund will be on the airline. DGCA has directed airlines to complete all refunds within 14 working days. This means that now passengers will not have to wait long and the refund process will be completely digital and transparent.
Easy refund even on medical emergency
It has also been made clear in the new rules that if a passenger cancels his flight due to a medical emergency, he will not face any problem in getting a refund. DGCA has made this change after complaints related to airline ticket refunds and problems faced by IndiGo flights in December 2025.
Big benefit for passengers
With these new rules, not only has ticket cancellation become easier, but correction of mistakes in name is also now possible for free. Passengers will no longer have to visit different departments for their refund and name correction. This step of DGCA will prove to be convenient, fast and reliable for the passengers.
