Every state, every city and every village of India is known for its distinct identity and traditions. But Nandur Nimba Monster, a small village located in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, is attracting the attention of the entire country due to its unique belief. In this village neither anyone buys nor drives a Maruti car nor is any Maruti brand vehicle seen within the village limits. Reason? Such a local story that anyone would be surprised to hear it.
Here the faith of the people is not based on any common religious tradition, but on the demon Nimba, the protector deity of the village. The people of the village believe that centuries ago there was a major dispute between the demon Nimba and Lord Hanuman (also known as Maruti). According to the story, the situation became so serious that Lord Rama had to intervene. It is said that Shri Ram gave the right to protect the village to the demon Nimba and instructed Hanuman to stay away from this area. Since then, the name Hanuman, his worship and even Maruti cars became taboo in the entire village.
There is not even a Hanuman temple in the village.
There is no Hanuman temple in the village. Even the child is not named “Marathi” or “Hanuman”. There is a belief in the village that if anything related to Hanuman enters the village, it brings bad luck and the name of Maruti car is directly related to this reason. Local people often tell a story. Many years ago a village doctor had purchased a Maruti 800. After purchasing the car, suddenly the number of patients coming to his clinic started decreasing. After continuous problems, he sold Maruti car and bought Tata Sumo. People claim that after this the doctor’s work started again. This incident further strengthened the belief of Maruti cars being inauspicious in the village.
other events
Some other incidents are also famous in the village like workers with name Maruti falling ill or hearing the horn of a Maruti car is considered a bad omen. However, this belief is limited only to the names associated with Hanuman. The villagers worship all other gods and goddesses like Ganesha and Krishna normally.
