Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were severely affected on Thursday due to dense fog and a sharp drop in visibility. According to official sources, 27 flights of various airlines had to be cancelled, while many other flights were delayed from their scheduled time. The canceled flights include 16 departures and 11 arrivals. Due to fog, visibility at the airport was significantly reduced, due to which normal flight operations were not possible.

Indigo canceled 59 flights

According to the news, meanwhile, the country’s largest airline Indigo also canceled 59 flights in its domestic network on Thursday. According to the airline’s website, IndiGo has also informed about the cancellation of 28 flights for Friday, although the reason behind these cancellations has not been clarified. In an advisory issued for passengers on Thursday morning, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said that due to dense fog, flight operations are currently being conducted under CAT-III conditions, due to which there is a possibility of delay or other disruption in flights.

CAT-III trained pilots are to be deployed

For safe operation of flights in low visibility conditions, airlines are required to mandatorily deploy CAT-III trained pilots and aircraft with CAT-III standards. CAT-III is an advanced Instrument Landing System (ILS) technology that allows aircraft to land safely even during extremely low visibility, such as dense fog, rain or snowfall. Under this system, aircraft can be landed even when the runway visual range (RVR) is 50 to 200 meters. Passengers have been advised to check their flight status before going to the airport and follow the guidelines issued by the airlines, so that any inconvenience can be avoided.
