Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said on Saturday that the delivery of commercial LPG cylinders has been started in the country. He said that delivery of commercial LPG cylinders has started in 29 states and union territories across the country and cylinders are being given to consumers. He said that at present about 84 percent booking is being done online, efforts are being made to increase it to almost 100 percent.
Due to panic on March 13, booking of domestic gas cylinders reached 88 lakhs.
Sujata Sharma said that there was a lot of discussion about commercial cylinders and after that it was decided that some LPG should be made available to commercial consumers also. Discussions have also been held with state governments in this regard. Along with this, he also shared important information regarding the rapidly increasing panic booking across the country. He said that on March 12, bookings were made for 75-76 lakh domestic gas cylinders, which increased to about 88 lakh on March 13. The government has requested the common people not to make panic booking. Book only when you need a gas cylinder. Let us tell you that on normal days, 50-55 lakh domestic gas cylinders are booked every day.
LPG cylinders can be booked after 25 days in cities and 45 days in villages.
He said that domestic LPG production is being continuously increased. Initially from 10% to 25%, then to 28% and now LPG production in the country has been increased to 31%. He also clarified that in cities there will be a minimum gap of 25 days between the last delivery and the next LPG booking, while in rural areas there will be a maximum gap of 45 days. That is, in cities the next booking can be made only 25 days after the previous booking, whereas in villages the next booking will be made after 45 days from the date of the previous booking. Consumers have been advised to keep this time limit in mind while booking.
