The operational crisis in the country’s largest airline IndiGo continued for the third day. On Thursday, the airline canceled more than 550 domestic and international flights, severely impacting the travel plans of hundreds of passengers. According to PTI news, seeing the situation becoming serious, the Civil Aviation Ministry and DGCA held a review meeting with senior IndiGo officials. While addressing the employees, the airline’s CEO Peter Albers said that normalizing operations and restoring flights on time will not be an easy goal.
The airline’s on-time performance dropped to just 19.7%
According to the news, IndiGo operates around 2,300 flights daily and punctuality is considered its biggest USP. But due to the ongoing disruptions, the airline’s on-time performance dropped to just 19.7% on Wednesday, compared to 35% on Tuesday. Cabin crew shortage, technical glitches and other operational challenges have led to flight delays and cancellations.
Federation of Indian Pilots’ response
Amid massive disruptions in IndiGo’s operations across the country, Captain CS Randhawa, President of the Federation of Indian Pilots, said IndiGo is one of the largest airlines in the country. I would like to say that this is a complete mismanagement on the part of Indigo Airlines’ network planning and operational planning. Why is the government not intervening and asking the airlines about this mess?
How many flights were canceled at which airports?
To handle the situation, IndiGo has made changes in the schedule and many flights are being removed as per the pre-determined cancellation plan. According to PTI sources, more than 550 flights were canceled at various airports across the country on Thursday. These mainly include:
- Delhi – 172
- Mumbai – 118
- Bengaluru – 100
- Hyderabad – 75
- Kolkata – 35
- Chennai – 26
- Goa – 11
Flights in other cities were also affected. Aviation regulator DGCA, issued a statement saying that the number of flight cancellations at IndiGo is increasing rapidly, which currently stands at around 170–200 per day. This number is much higher than on normal days.
Indigo gave this assurance
IndiGo on Thursday told aviation regulator DGCA that it expects operations to be completely stable by February 10, 2026, and sought temporary relaxation in flight duty norms. IndiGo also told the regulator that there will be more cancellations till December 8 and there will be reduction in services from that day.
