History was created on Wednesday in the online auction of VIP number plates in Haryana. The auction of this premium number started with a base price of ₹50,000. According to NDTV news, the number plate kept increasing minute by minute and by 12 noon the bidding had reached ₹88 lakh.
The bid closed at ₹1.17 crore at 5 pm, which is almost 234 times more than the opening price. A total of 45 interested applicants had bid for this number, which shows its huge demand.
VIP number auction process in Haryana
The online auction of VIP or fancy number plates in Haryana is a weekly process, conducted through the website fancy.parivahan.gov.in. In this, applicants can apply from Friday 5 pm to Monday 9 am. Under this, bidding is done from Monday 9 am to Wednesday evening 5 pm. Live bidding takes place on fancy.parivahan.gov.in. Last week also the number ‘HR22W2222’ was sold for ₹37.91 lakh, but this time ‘HR88B8888’ left this record many times over.
Why is HR88B8888 so special?
What makes this number plate unique is its special pattern, which resembles a series of digits ‘8’:
HR – State Code (Haryana)
88 – RTO/district indication
B – Vehicle Series Code
8888 – Unique Registration Number
Since the uppercase letter ‘B’ also looks like the number ‘8’, this number plate appears to be almost entirely a premium pattern of ‘8’ (e.g. 88888888), making it extremely rare and desirable.
Another expensive VIP number of the country
This new record also breaks Kerala’s previous record, which was set in April 2024:
Number: “KL 07 DG 0007”
Price: ₹45.99 lakh
Buyer: Tech billionaire Venu Gopalakrishnan
Vehicle: Lamborghini Urus Performante
USP: The number ‘0007’ is similar to the famous James Bond code 007, making it exclusive.
