9 days IndiGo will call in an external technical expert to work with its management and board to investigate the ongoing serious operational crisis. Let us tell you that Indigo canceled more than 5000 flights from December 2 to December 10, due to which lakhs of passengers across the country had to face a lot of problems. Vikram Singh Mehta, chairman of the board of directors of IndiGo’s parent company InterGlobe Aviation, released a video message on Wednesday in which he said the investigation into the operational crisis will cover every aspect and corrective action will be taken to prevent the crisis from recurring.
will examine every aspect
“We assure you that we will investigate every aspect of what went wrong and learn from it. The board has decided that it will engage an external technical expert to work with management to help determine the root causes and ensure corrective action is taken so that disruptions of this level never happen again,” Vikram Mehta said in a statement.
Mehta apologized to the passengers
Vikram Mehta, chairman of the board of directors of InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo), personally apologized to the passengers affected by these incidents and acknowledged that they were inconvenienced by missing family gatherings, business meetings and international connections. He said, “I want to say it very simply and clearly. We are sorry. We did not live up to your expectations in those days and for that we are truly sorry.”
He said thousands of people were left stranded due to flights being cancelled, luggage arriving late or being sent to the wrong place. Despite calls for him to respond first, he said the board felt its first duty was to support CEO Peter Albers and his team as they worked to stabilize operations. He added, “With this stability, I feel this is the right time for me to speak out.”
True and false allegations made against Indigo
On the criticism of IndiGo regarding this crisis, Mehta said that some of the claims being made are wrong. “There has been a lot of criticism, some fair, some not. The fair criticism is that the airline let you down,” he said. He said allegations leveled against IndiGo that the airline itself created the crisis, tried to influence government regulations, compromised safety or did not provide information to the board are false.
Problem arose due to many reasons
He said, “IndiGo has complied with the FDTL rules as soon as they came into force. We operated under the new rules in both July and November. We did not try to bypass them. Nor did we do anything that would detract from our impeccable track record of safety.” Mehta said the crisis was caused by “a combination of internal and external events, including minor technical glitches, schedule changes related to the onset of winter season, inclement weather, increased congestion in the aviation system, and implementation and operations under the updated crew rostering rules.”
