If Thailand is at the top in the list of foreign travel, then this news is very important for you. The Thai government has made major changes to visa rules from 2025, aimed at promoting tourism, strengthening the economy and simplifying the entry process for travelers. Although the new rules are certainly convenient, it is equally important to understand them properly, otherwise you may have to face problems at the airport.
Under the new rules, passport holders from 93 countries and territories can now enter Thailand without a visa. They can stay for a maximum of 60 days for tourism, work or short-term business. Apart from this, citizens of 31 countries can apply for Visa on Arrival at the immigration checkpoint. The government is considering including 8 more countries in this list soon. This will provide relief to travelers from the hassle of applying for visa in advance.
Special visa for remote workers and students
Destination Thailand Visa has been launched for digital nomads and online workers. This special category is for foreign nationals who want to do remote work while living in Thailand. Also, Non-Immigrant ED Plus Visa has also been launched, which provides the facility to study or work while studying. The government is also reviewing the rules for long-term visas, especially for seniors planning retirement.
Visa codes reduced, process became easier
The government has reduced the number of non-immigrant visa codes from 17 to 7, making the process more simplified. From 1 January 2025, e-Visa application is available through 94 Thai Embassies and Consulates around the world. These changes have been made to ensure transparency and faster processing for passengers.
Relief at checkpoint with digital arrival card
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TM.6 online system) has been implemented from 1 May 2025. Now passengers will have to fill their information online before entry, which will provide relief from long queues at airports and border checkpoints.
