There is good news for Delhiites. In the coming days, the metro network in Delhi is going to become even bigger. Actually, Delhi Metro Phase-5 has got approval from the government. Under this, three new corridors will be built. The cost of this project will be around ₹12,014 crore. The government has also released the complete details of the three new corridors under Phase-5. The target has been set to complete this project by the year 2028. All the corridors approved will be developed as extensions of existing metro lines. Their main objective is to make connectivity in major and densely populated areas of the capital more accessible, faster and effective, thereby providing better transportation facilities to the passengers.

Magenta Line will become the longest corridor of Delhi Metro
Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line (Line-8) is going to become the longest line of the network after the expansion. With the highest number of interchanges and underground stations, this corridor will make commuting in the National Capital Region more convenient and efficient. Under the recently approved Phase-V (A), the Magenta Line will be extended from Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha (via Central Vista). Apart from this, Indraprastha-Inderlok corridor of Phase-IV will also be made a part of this line. After these two extensions, the total length of Magenta Line from Botanical Garden to Inderlok will be about 89 kilometers, making it the longest corridor of Delhi Metro. When completely ready, this line will have completely driverless operation.
Connectivity will increase with 21 interchange stations
After the expansion, there will be a total of 21 interchange stations on this line. At present, its operational part consists of four interchange stations – Kalkaji Mandir, Botanical Garden, Janakpuri West and Hauz Khas. Under Phase-IV and Phase-V (A), 17 new interchange stations will be added, which include Kalindi Kunj, Chirag Delhi, Terminal-1 IGI Airport, Peeragarhi, Pitampura (Madhuban Chowk), Haiderpur Badli Mod, Majlis Park, Azadpur, Pulbangash, Nabi Karim, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Indraprastha, Delhi Gate, New Delhi and Inderlok.
Among these, Central Secretariat, Azadpur, New Delhi and Inderlok will be developed as triple interchange stations. There will be a total of 65 stations from Botanical Garden to Inderlok, out of which 40 will be underground. Better interchange arrangements will save time for commuters, reduce congestion and ensure seamless connectivity in the city.
