A major change is soon going to be seen in Delhi’s railway system. New Delhi Railway Station, one of the busiest railway stations in the country, will now be seen in a new avatar. Railways has taken a big decision to speed up the redevelopment work of the station. Under this, a plan has been made to remove about five dozen trains from New Delhi station and transfer them to other stations. This step is being taken with the aim of reducing the rush of passengers and completing the construction work on time.
Why was it necessary to shift trains?
According to railway sources, about 300 trains operate daily from New Delhi Railway Station and more than four lakh passengers travel here every day. Redevelopment work amidst such a huge crowd remains a big challenge. For this reason, Railways has decided to reduce the number of trains at the station and carry forward the construction work without any interruption.
To which stations will the trains be sent?
According to the plan, the trains to be removed from New Delhi railway station will be shifted to Old Delhi, Sarai Rohilla, Tughlakabad Junction, Sabzi Mandi, Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad and Bijwasan railway stations. Along with this, most of the trains running from Sarai Rohilla station will also be transferred to Bijwasan. This will reduce the crowd pressure at New Delhi station as well as Sarai Rohilla.
Work started from Paharganj side
The work of redevelopment of New Delhi Railway Station has been started by Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) from Paharganj side. Work is being done rapidly to complete this project within the stipulated time. Railway officials say that till now the overcrowding of the station was the biggest obstacle, which can be overcome to a great extent by transfer of trains.
Bijwasan station will be ready in six months
Bijwasan railway station has an important role in this entire plan. According to railway sources, Bijwasan station will be completely ready in the next six months. Eight platforms are being built here. Earlier there was a hurdle regarding cutting of trees, but now permission has been given for it. As soon as the station is ready by July, about three dozen trains will be run from Sarai Rohilla.
What will be the benefit to the passengers?
Although in the initial phase, passengers may face some inconvenience due to change in their train station, but in the long run, it will be beneficial. By making New Delhi Railway Station modern and convenient, passengers will get a better experience and will also get relief from congestion.
