New Delhi: PM Modi on Tuesday held a meeting with renowned economists and experts at NITI Aayog ahead of the preparations for the Union Budget for the financial year 2026-27. During this, he stressed the need for mission-based reforms in various sectors to ensure long-term economic growth. He also stressed on fulfilling the resolve of ‘Developed India’ by the year 2047. In the meeting, PM Modi also stressed the need to build global capabilities and achieve international integration. The theme of this dialogue was ‘Self-reliance and structural transformation: Agenda for a developed India’.

During the meeting, PM Modi said that the resolution for 2047 should be kept central in India’s policy-making process and budget setting. He said it is important to keep the country an important hub for the global labor force and international markets. Referring to the goal of ‘Developed India’, PM Modi said that the resolve to make India a developed nation by the year 2047 has now become an aspiration of the common people, apart from government policies.
Economists and experts gave suggestions
During the discussion, economists and experts shared strategic suggestions on measures to increase productivity and competitiveness in the manufacturing and services sectors. He also said that unprecedented reforms in diverse sectors during 2025 and their integration in the coming year will help India maintain its leading position as one of the fastest growing global economies, strengthen the base and open up new opportunities. Accelerating the pace of structural transformation through increasing domestic savings, developing strong infrastructure and using cutting-edge technology remained at the center of the discussion.

Economists and experts highlighted the role of AI as a productivity enhancing tool in various sectors and also discussed the need to continuously expand India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister P.K. Mishra and Shaktikanta Das, Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) V. Ananth Nageswaran, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Berry and Chief Executive Officer B. V.R. Subramaniam and other members of the commission were present. Apart from this, many eminent economists and experts were also present in this meeting.
