Indigo CEO Peter Albers and COO Isidre Porqueras on Monday responded to the show cause notice issued by DGCA regarding the huge crisis in the airline’s flight operations. An airline source gave this information on Monday. The two top executives of the airline were given time till 6 pm on Monday to respond to the notice. “Chief Executive Officer Peter Albers and Chief Operating Officer Isidre Porqueras have responded to the show cause notice,” an IndiGo source confirmed to PTI.
DGCA had issued show cause notice on Saturday
However, there is no clear information available about what has been said in the reply. DGCA on Saturday issued a show cause notice to the CEO and COO of IndiGo and sought a response within 24 hours on the huge disruptions in flight operations. IndiGo had sought an additional 24 hours to respond, following which the deadline was later extended till 6 pm on Monday.
Thousands of flights cancelled, lakhs of passengers troubled
For 7 consecutive days, IndiGo has canceled thousands of flights and delayed countless flights, causing hardship to lakhs of passengers. In a notice sent to Albers and Porqueras, the regulator had said that the large-scale operational failures reflected major lapses in planning, oversight and resource management.
CEO failed to perform duty
Isidre Porqueras is also the airline’s accountable manager. “As the CEO, you are responsible for ensuring the effective management of the airline, but you have failed to discharge your duties in ensuring reliable operations and making timely arrangements to provide the necessary facilities to passengers,” the regulator had said in the notice sent to Albers.
Proper arrangements were not made to follow the new rules
The notice said the main reason for the disruption in flights was the airline’s lack of proper arrangements to meet the changed requirements for smoothly implementing the approved FDTL (Flight Duty Time Limitation) scheme.
