hotelA new rule will soon be issued to stop the practice of taking photocopies of customers’ Aadhaar and keeping it in paper form by organizations like ‘event organizers’. A senior government official gave this information on Sunday. This practice is a violation of the current Aadhaar Act. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar told PTI that the authority has approved a new rule, under which it will be mandatory for organizations like hotels, event organizers etc. to register for Aadhaar-based verification. He said that new technology will be made available to registered organizations, through which they will be able to do verification by scanning QR code or through the new Aadhaar app.
New rule will be notified very soon
Bhuvnesh Kumar said, “This rule will be notified very soon. Its purpose is to completely stop offline verification by taking a photocopy of Aadhaar.” Organizations doing offline verification will be provided with API (Application Programming Interface), through which they will be able to update their system for Aadhaar verification. UIDAI is beta-testing a new app that will allow identity verification directly from app to app without linking to a central database for each Aadhaar verification. Beta-testing is a type of testing in which a new software, app or technology is used among a limited number of people before it is fully introduced to general users. Its purpose is to see whether the app or software is working properly in real conditions and whether there is any problem in it.
New Aadhaar app can be used at airport also
Aadhaar’s new app can also be used at airports, shops selling age-restricted products etc. Bhuvnesh Kumar said, “This ease of verification will make offline verification paperless, at the same time the privacy of the users will be completely safe and there will be no risk of Aadhaar information being leaked and misused.” The new app will make the Aadhaar authentication service fully compliant with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which will be fully implemented in the next 18 months.
