Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday announced a major increase of 5 per cent in the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) of state government employees and pensioners, taking the total dearness allowance given to the employees now increasing from 36 per cent to 41 per cent. Shortly after Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy concluded his budget speech, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that this latest increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief will be applicable for government employees and pensioners from April 1, 2026.
1,02,563 employees and 81,019 pensioners will get benefits
Chief Minister Manik Saha said that with this decision of the government, 1,02,563 regular employees and 81,019 pensioners of the state will get the benefit of increase in DA and DR. He said, “The government will spend an extra Rs 500 crore every year to provide 5 percent dearness allowance to government employees. We are continuously making efforts to increase the DA for the employees so that it comes close to the DA of the Central Government employees. Let us tell you that at present the Central Government gives 58 percent DA i.e. Dearness Allowance to its employees. In this respect, Tripura employees are 17 percent behind compared to the Central Government employees, which is a huge figure.
Tripura government presented a budget of Rs 34,212.31 crore
Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Monday presented a budget of Rs 34,212.31 crore for the financial year 2026-27, in which no new tax has been proposed. Special attention has been given in the budget to infrastructure development, digital transformation and rural employment. This budget is 5.52 percent more than last year’s budget estimate of Rs 32,423 crore. However, despite the increase in the total budget size, a deficit of Rs 240.72 crore has been estimated. To boost infrastructure development, Roy proposed capital expenditure of Rs 8,945.92 crore, which is 13.19 per cent higher than a year ago.
