Indian Railways’ new train Amrit Bharat Express is becoming increasingly popular among the common passengers. This non-AC train, which provides better facilities at low fares, has been started especially keeping in mind the passengers of low and middle income group. According to Railway data, the average occupancy in the sleeper class of these trains has been recorded at more than 100 percent, which clearly shows that the demand for it among the passengers is continuously increasing.

Amrit Bharat Express is a completely non-AC modern train service, which has been launched to make long distance travel affordable, safe and comfortable. This train consists of a total of 11 general coaches, 8 sleeper coaches, 1 pantry car and 2 luggage-cum-disabled coaches. According to Railways, these trains are being run with better speed and modern safety standards.

Modern facilities for passengers

Many new and modern facilities have been provided to the passengers in Amrit Bharat Express. The design of the seat and berth has been improved, which gives a comfortable experience like the Vande Bharat sleeper train. Apart from this, shock-free semi-automatic couplers, better crash safety, CCTV cameras, LED lights and mobile charging sockets have been installed in the trains. Fire suppression system, emergency talk-back system and improved braking system have also been installed for the safety of passengers. Besides, arrangements for non-AC pantry car and clean toilets have been made in the train.

Railways increased general coaches

In view of the increasing demand of passengers, Indian Railways has also increased the number of general coaches. In the last financial year 2024-25, about 1250 general coaches were added to long distance trains. In the current financial year 2025-26, 860 general coaches have been permanently increased till February, so that passengers traveling without reservation can get more space.

Plan to make 17 thousand non-AC coaches

Keeping in view the future needs, Railways has also started planning to make 17,000 non-AC coaches (General and Sleeper). With this, common passengers will get more seats and better facilities.

Emphasis on cleanliness and maintenance

Railways has also given priority to the cleaning and maintenance of trains. Bio-toilets have been installed in all trains, due to which the cleanliness of trains and railway tracks remains better. Apart from this, arrangements have also been made for mechanized cleaning, on-board housekeeping and regular inspection of coaches.
