Investment in equity mutual funds increased to Rs 25,978 crore in the month of February, which is about 8% more than the previous month. This information has come to light in the data released by the industry organization, Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). With this increase, the total asset under management (AUM) of the mutual fund industry increased from Rs 81 lakh crore in January to Rs 82 lakh crore in February. According to Venkat N Chalasani, CEO, Association of Mutual Funds in India, a major reason for positive investment in equities could be the trade deal between India and America. However, he also said that the Middle East tensions involving the US, Israel and Iran may bring some volatility in the market in the times to come, but India’s growth story will remain strong in the long run.

Which funds received the maximum investment?

According to the data, investment in equity schemes increased to Rs 25,978 crore in February, which is more than Rs 24,028 crore in January.

In Equity Category:

  • The highest net investment of Rs 6,924.65 crore came in Flexi Cap Fund.
  • Investment of Rs 4,003 crore was made in mid cap funds.
  • Investments worth Rs 3,881 crore were recorded in small cap funds.
  • Sectoral and thematic funds saw inflows of Rs 2,987 crore.
  • Rs 2,112 crore was invested in large cap funds.

However, ELSS (tax saving) funds saw a net outflow of Rs 650 crore, indicating that some investors booked profits or reduced tax saving investments during the period.

Total investment and other fund categories

Overall, net investment in the mutual fund industry was recorded at Rs 94,530 crore in February, which is less than Rs 1.56 lakh crore in January. There was an investment of Rs 5,255 crore in Gold ETF during February, whereas it was Rs 24,040 crore in January and Rs 11,647 crore in December. Apart from this, there was a net investment of Rs 42,106 crore in debt mutual funds in February, which was less than Rs 74,827 crore in January.
